For any teachers or people who work with children who are interested in mindfulness training and resources I recommend my colleague from the Centre for Mindfulness Derval Dunford at Mindfulness Matters.ie

Limerick School Project Mindfulness Programme

In 2016 I had the honour of teaching mindfulness in the classroom at Limerick School Project for 4-12 year olds, one day a week for seven weeks.

It was an enriching and fun experience.  The children engaged in the practices wholeheartedly. The mindfulness seed was sown so they can access the practice whenever they feel stressed.  The staff and teachers embraced the programme as they were committed to the well-being of the children and themselves, many teachers continue the practices in the classroom.  It is great to have this tool and learn how to breathe and regulate your emotions. Also to develop awareness of our environment. I learned so much from them and wish them well on the their mindful journey now and in the years ahead.

The following are some of the comments from the children involved…

I liked the glitter jar because it made me relax when my brain was very busy. Termeh

I liked the breathing exercise, it helped me when I got scared. It helped me calm down, I really enjoyed mindfulness. Thank you Donna. Laura

IWhat I liked about mindfulness was that we got to lie down and do a mat exercise and it was fun and I loved it. Seán O’L

I liked the bells because it helps me relax. Malika

When I was angry I breathed in and breathed out and then I felt calm. Shaira
